Wednesday, April 1, 2020 (COLBY, KAN.) - LiveWell Northwest Kansas is pleased to announce Christina Beringer, Colby, as the new Coordinator for the Thomas County Coalition. As a small business owner and freelance consultant for public relations and grant proposal writing, Beringer is known in the community for her work with the downtown business district of Colby and many nonprofit organizations throughout northwest Kansas.
“Over the past year, Christina has partnered with LiveWell as a marketing and grant writing consultant. Her knowledge of the organization and the entire community will undoubtedly become an integral part of the Thomas County Coalition as it moves forward,” said LiveWell Executive Director, Travis Rickford.
A native of Colby, Beringer received an associate degree in visual arts from Colby Community College before graduating Cum Laude in 2010 from Fort Hays State University. There, she received a certificate of Grant Proposal Writing and a bachelor’s degree in communications.
In addition to over 14 years of experience working in the nonprofit arena as a promoter, fundraiser and event planner, she also has experience in journalism as a special reporter for the Colby Free Press and currently owns a part-time baby and maternity boutique in Colby.
Beringer serves or has served on boards of the Thomas County Community Foundation, Colby/Thomas County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Colby/Thomas County Chamber of Commerce’s Downtown Light Parade Committee, Copeland Community Garden and the Thomas County Breastfeeding Coalition.
“I’ve always been interested in promoting rural Kansas and especially my hometown community of Colby,” explains Beringer. “It’s been incredible to witness growth and prosperity, to help bring a nonprofit’s passion to reality, and now I’m honored for the chance to coordinate the success of the Thomas County Coalition.”
The Coalition operates under the guidance of LiveWell with a mission of creating a long-lasting and positive culture of change towards healthier living. It is a group of Thomas County residents and stakeholders working to make Thomas County the healthiest county in Kansas. The coalition works to make heathy choices easy and convenient, through creating environments that enable healthy eating, healthy beverage consumption and active living while providing opportunities for healthier lifestyles.
“I think my unique background will be an asset to the missions of the Coalition. In addition to my nonprofit work, my interests in supporting a family’s health can be tied directly to the work we do at Nesting-- my baby and maternity boutique,” says Beringer. “We specialize in nursing and lactation support, and prenatal care, which sets a solid foundation for family success, health and happiness as new moms and dads navigate the complexities of parenthood.
“I’m excited to expand my focus on healthy living and well-being, from my own young family and others at Nesting, outwards to the rest of the community through LiveWell and the Thomas County Coalition.”
Beringer and her husband, Curt, live in Colby with their son Burke, 6, and daughter Elle, 4.
