Following a Blue Cross Blue Shields of Kansas forum on Wednesday, April 24, at Colby Community College LiveWell Northwest Kansas representatives, Blue Cross Blue Shield hosts and about 20 other community members participated in National Walk @ Lunch Day.
The group enjoyed a 30 minute walk around Colby's beautiful Walking Trails that encircle the college, Poolside Park and Colby Aquatic Park. LiveWell played a major part in the completion of the 2.2 mile walking trail which takes center stage in Thomas County's goal of being the most walkable community in Kansas.
Blue Cross says that taking a walk is one of the simplest, safest and most effective forms of exercise and walking at a pace of 3 mph can substantially reduce the risk of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
National Walk @ Lunch Day provides the perfect opportunity to get up from a desk for a 30 minute walk. On April 24, LiveWell joined tens of thousands of Americans across the country and walked just for the "health" of it.
The Blue Cross forum focused on initiatives throughout the region related to workplace support and Pathways to a Healthy Kansas programming. Learn more about the program by visiting this blog post.
