Mental Health First Aid Training

Tue, Oct 25

|

The basement of Nesting.

We often see people struggling around us but rarely feel comfortable helping, even though one small act could make all the difference for someone in crisis. Mental Health First Aid is evidence-based and demonstrates how to assess a mental health crisis, intervene and connect people with help.

By attending, you'll learn risk factors and warning signs for various mental health challenges like depression, sucide, self-injury, anxiety, panic attacks, psychosis and substance abuse disorders.

You'll learn the Five-Step Action Plan for Intervention and become equipped with practical tools to respond effectively. We'll help dispel mental health myths that often prevent action. And, we'll empower you to offer aid to a struggling individual without fear.

Mental Health First Aid Training is sponsored by LiveWell Northwest Kansas and the Thomas County Coalition. It is facilitated by trained educators of High Plains Mental Health. CEU's are avaialble upon request.

Mental Health First Aid Training is a day-long, evidence-based program. By attending you'll learn how to help someone developing a possible mental health problem, experiencing worsening mental illness symptoms, or in the midst of a crisis. This class also helps reduce stigma in communities and increases mental health literacy. Training is ideal for concerned community members, teachers and school faculty, counselors and youth leaders, emergency responders, social service personnel, etc. The information is factual and easy to understand. And, the class counts towards professional/continuing education credit for many professions.

Class is limited to 30 participants. Thomas County Coalition members will enjoy a reduced admission rate of $10; for non-members, class is $25 to attend. You must register in advance by emailing Thomas County Coalition Coordinator Christina Beringer at christina@beringerconsultations.com.

A textbook, class supplies and a catered lunch will be provided.
